Sock Summit and Socks!

I am so very excited to be vending at Sock Summit this year in Portland Oregon! This will be my biggest show yet and I am really looking forward to seeing so many knitters.

If you are going, make sure to stop by and say hi! I don’t often get to meet many of my US based friends.

I will be sending off a bunch of my inventory in advance starting today, so some things will be missing from the shop, but it will give me an opportunity to bring some great new items into the shop this fall so stay tuned for that.

In order to prepare for the sock madness I have been knitting my little heart out on a few pairs of socks…

hulk

These are Chris’ Hulk Smash Socks which were technically supposed to be his engagement present…which I finished on our honeymoon…so not really too late on those. However, I have yet to cast on his wedding sweater…I think it might be more like a Christmas sweater ;)

Back to the socks. The yarn is The YoYo string and fluff in the Superwash Merino/Nylon base and it was wonderful to knit with. I am absolutely taking it to sock summit with me and we should have more this fall!

The pattern is just my plain vanilla sock pattern…there really isn’t any pattern at all…I just cast on and go…in a fingering weight Chris’ socks are always a cast on of 68 stitches and then I just measure his foot as I go.

There is a lot more knitting in the works…hopefully I will have a finished ishbel to show in the next 2 weeks!

xoxo
Michelle
Ps. Thank you all SO MUCH for all the wonderful well wishes for our wedding. It was an absolutely amazing 2 weeks!

RV knitting

Now for the knitting portion of the trip!

The second that we left the driveway I had my needles out and did not put them down until we got back home. For a month and a half I think I knit quite a bit.

I have a sweater which is not pictured…it is the Everybody Knows cardigan from knitty that I am just finishing up the collar on. I knit all of the sweater pieces on the trip and will have modeled photos for you soon.

Here we go! First up

yoyo1.jpg

Morning surf scarf rav link

Knit with 2 skeins of YoYo in Cashsport

I really enjoyed working with this yarn. The colour is so beautiful and a bit of cashmere?!? How can you go wrong! The scarf is unblocked…I will most likely leave it that way..I love how the YO’s are puffy and squooshy!

Project #2

hypot.jpg

Hypotenuse by Anne Hanson of Knitspot

My handspun yarn

Carrie and I are doing a shawl exchange so I dyed and spun up a pound of merino bamboo and knit her this stole, as you can see she loved it, as did I, and if she wasn’t knitting one for me I would surely knit this pattern again. For the sake of easy RV knitting I omitted the purl stitches on the right side and had this baby done in a week!

Project #3

beret.jpg

One Day Beret by Kristin Kapur

My handspun yarn, roving by Squoosh

This really was an almost one day beret. The pattern was so easy to understand and I loved that it gave you the freedom to  modify the pattern. I was short on yarn so it is a bit less slouchy, but I thought it suited her. Plus spinning from the squoosh roving was a dream!

Project #4

handspun.jpg

Pattern Coming soon!

I was inspired to spin and design a scarf while in texas. The pattern is on it’s way shortly. It uses 290yds of sport weight yarn. I am also making a second variation with great big sea, which is why it is taking a little bit of time to get this out.

Project #5

vines.jpg

Strangling vines scarf by Nicole Hindes

Knit with one skein of Malabrigo sock with lots left over

I love love love this yarn! This scarf was knit for a friend’s birthday. We were hoping to see her along the route but our schedules failed to match up so I will be mailing it. I made the scarf thinner than the pattern suggested…I simply took out a repeat and i am happy with the width.

Project #6

Picture coming: apparently the gloves have run off with the spoon…poor fork.

Toasty

My handspun from a batt that carrie and I worked up together

This was a fun and fast knit which kept my fingers warm as we hit a bit of colder weather. At this point I don’t love spinning from batts but I do LOVE knitting with sparklie yarn…so I am  planning on working on loving batts…because the magpie in me needs some sparklies in my handspun yarns!

Project #7

As mentioned above, this sweater will get it’s own post…because it took that long to knit!

Everybody knows from knitty in Malabrigo worsted.

Oh, and I also started a stole design with my handspun fiber in the “simon” colourway..but no sneak peeks yet!

Now onto wedding knitting…of which I can’t show much because my family has “found” the blog and flickr…but there is wedding knitting and lots of spinning which I have been updating my etsy shop with while my stock is in the USA.

Now back to our regular blogging.

Some Finished Knitting

There has been much knitting going on here and even some finishing!

shawl.jpg This is my Hyacinth shawl by Evelyn Clark and using one skein of my Sweet Super Skeins. They are totally out of stock right now but will be updated early next week.

shawl2.jpg

This was a really fun knit and is even more fun to wear!

And speaking of fun to wear I have a handspun shrug! I adore everything about handspun, I love the process of spinning my own yarn and knitting with it is another wonderful experience. Just knowing that I took the fiber and created something that I can wear and enjoy is worth every second of the work that went into it.

shrug.jpg

The pattern is a modified version of Shrug This.

The roving was 2 braids of Funky Carolina spun together for 8 wonderful ounces.

So, that’s it for FO’s, but I am currently working on my handspun shawl and will have pictures soon!!

In shop news I will be updating with lovesticks self striping tonight and our last order of sKNITches self striping!

Flury of FO’s

Handspun sweaters! I have finished both of my handspun sweaters and just absolutely love them both!

First up is my Bitchin sweater

This sweater was a labour of love!

sweatergood.jpg

And do I ever love it!! The roving was Funky Carolina  in Merino Tencel, which is now officially my favorite blend to spin…it is just sooooo smooth!  The pattern is a HEAVILY modified version of the little red riding hoodie. I don’t like to spread negativity so i will just say that I didn’t like the pattern and leave it at that.

Want some more pics?

sweater1.jpg

sweater2.jpg

Sunday was a BEAUTIFUL day for taking FO pictures. I must admit that I didn’t sew the zipper in. I took it to a professional as my sewing skills are less than desirable and I wanted the zipper to work!

I adore this sweater even if it is REALLY heavy!

Up next…

My Buttony Sweater

I really love this sweater too…it is super comfortable!

buttony.jpg

This is my “I’m a model” pose! Ha ha ha.

The sweater is knit from the Buttony pattern with very few modifications. I did add some extra length because sweaters seem to be a bit short on me and I really think that length can just ruin a sweater’s comfort level.

The yarn is my handspun from some superwash merino I dyed specifically for a sweater. I am really happy with it and love the feel of the superwash on my skin. The neckline on this sweater is fantastic…I really love the way that it sits so I am planning to knit another one of these sweaters minus the buttons.

buttony2.jpg

And if that wasn’t enough I also finished my Clapotis!

clap.jpg

Sweet sheep colourway dyed by Union center knits.

Whew! I wish I could say that is all of my UFO’s finished…but it is not even close!

I have plenty of roving put aside for a few sweaters, but of course I have to finish spinning for my shawl first!

Next up..my LONG awaited Seraphim…did I mention it has been on the needles forever?

So what are you knitting?

On To Christmas!

Wow, this weekend just flew by! Thank you to all who took part in the $20 skein sale!

In between packing orders I managed to finish this:a5.jpg

As many of my family members will tell you, I am THRILLED with this shawl.

a3.jpg

I used 8 braids of merino and superwash merino from my stash and spun them to a bulky weight. The pattern is the feather and fan comfort shawl and I would make another in a heartbeat.

a4.jpg

The sun even came out today for the shawl’s photo shoot! With the finishing of this shawl I am now moving on to my Christmas knitting.

Enough about me! The random number generator has chosen a winner for the Handspun Holiday Contest.

Congratulations Adelle, enjoy your gift certificate.

In honour of my handspun excitement I will be putting all Funky Carolina, Ceyeberfiber rovings on sale today only, so you can make a handspun shawl too!

Beatrice Bee

She is off the needles! What a lovely day to finish a shawl, the first snow fall :-)

As she was coming off the needles she earned her name, Beatrice.  Here she is in all of her pre blocked glory:bea.jpg

She is now headed for a warm bath after her tumble in the snow.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American friends, and to all of our Canadian friends…a few shots of the first snow fall here

January 30, 2007

Monday, monday…

Ah monday, the beginning of a new week…and 5 days of work ahead! So let’s forget about work and talk knitting…because we all know knitting is more fun than working.

So I have had mixed responses to the below UFO VS Casting On question. Thank you ladies for your responses. They have made me think…I could not decided what to do, so I continued to work on my design project. I will be away for a few days so I took only one project with me and will concentrate on it so I can write up the pattern for you lovely folks.

It really got me to thinking…how many of you have UFO socks? Just can’t knit the second sock…would we be interested in a Sock UFO exchange? Just a thought…maybe we could send someone else our second sock?

Yes I do just blurt as I am writing…it is a habit…it gets me into trouble.

Anyways as I was saying I am still up in the air on what to do knitting wise..I have a few days to think about it.

Just a quick reminder…today is the 29th…the semi solid club starts on the 1st of Feb and there are a few spots left if you want in. I will not be taking anyone more after Feb 1.

Go Get Yours!

This week is an exciting week in store news….we have a shipment of the amazing Brooklyn Handspun signature yarn on it’s way to the shop this week…will hopefully be up this weekend, and I also put up the incredibly soft Shelridge Soft Touch . The colours are so rich an beautiful!

And last but not least…a Finished Object!!orchard.jpg

My finished sKNITches socks!

They ROCK!

Finished Knee Highs

Last week I finished my first and certainly not my last pair of Knee Highs!

Here are my Mama-E Highskh2.jpg

I love how this yarn knits up…I think the striping and pooling really gives it

a lot of character.

kh11.jpg

The Specs…

Pattern: My own…I just kept trying it on..not much to it…with a basic sock

Yarn: Ceyeberfiber yarns in the Sweet Sheep Signature by the talented Mama E 2 Skeins.

There are not 2 skeins left in the store but there is enough of the Beauregard for Knee socks.

Needles: Size 2 Clover Bamboo DPN’s

Thoughts: I will have to make the ribbing tighter on the next pair as they slip down a bit. If you are using this method remember to do the ribbing on smaller needles…I didn’t…oops!

Also the ladders are bugging me so I think it is time to learn the magic loop for my next pair.

I did have enough yarn left over to make another pair of at least anklets so the yardage is generous for this project. And just on a side note the colours that are currently in the shop will not be repeated, so what you see is what we have.

I love these socks. In order to fix my lazy ribbing I am going to either weave in some elastic with a darning needle or find some pretty pink ribbon to tie in there…I have not decided…any suggestions??

There are so many beautiful yarns in the store right now I don’t know which to knit next.

I finished my orchards socks from sKNITches and have a secret sock project on the go right now.

I also have some design ideas floating in my head for a cabled hat, but I think I am going to work on some fingerless gloves first. I had some time to spin this weekend (boy am I out of practice) and am looking to make a pair of the “fetching” gloves with it (if I can get a consistant gauge)

Pictures of spinning to come this week as i make more progress.

Did everyone hear that Project Spectrum is back…I would love to hear if you are going to participate or not?

I will be in a way…but not the way you may think
