Happy Handspun Holidays!

Today is a great day. I have photographed my handspun shawl progress and that makes me very happy. I am also making great progress on the seraphim shawl!

The Tree is half decorated (I seem to have lost my wire thingies and I need another strand of lights)

And half of the outside lights are up! It seems to be taking some settling into with our first Second Christmas in our own house.

I adore Christmas time and wanted to share my joy, so I will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to the store on Tuesday as a kick off for the holidays!

Leave me a little comment and let me know why YOU love the Holidays and I will pick a winner and announce it on Tuesday.

And then there was spinning

I am almost finished my spinning for the handspun shawl.

The last braid is being plied at this moment. Here is what I have so far!

spun.jpg

I decided to go with a total of 8 braids of handspun…all from my stash! These seven are waiting to cast on.

Speaking of casting on, I may have cast on for a Seraphim Shawl as soon as I cast of the Bee shawl.

I am test knitting a new yarn for my line, it is a soft spun yarn and it certainly passes!! The yarn is just incredible to work with.

You might be thinking…”shouldn’t she be Christmas knitting?”  Oh…how right you are! Since I am completely insane I have decided to start that in December. Yeah…

Here we go

There are SO MANY incredible yarns in the store right now! With my first snow fall yesterday I am just thrilled to be surrounded by so much beautiful yarn.

Dream in Color Smooshy  is back in stock in every colour. I adore this yarn it is just simply amazing to knit with. This will be the last time I receive this yarn for 2007 so check them out before they are gone.
We were also so excited to receive our new shipment of  Camel Spin from Handmaiden . This yarn is very soft and boasts a content of 70% silk and 30% Camel. What more could a knitter ask for? The skeins are a generous 100 grams.

We also have a new Mystery Dyer! The last dyer sold out so quickly that we thought we would put up our next dyer right away. The skeins are beautiful!
Clue #1: This Dyer is American
Clue #2:This Dyer loves Sprites and Woodland Creatures!

Finally, I have dyed up a bunch of new Sweet Lace . Most of the new colours are one of two of a kind and will not be repeated. I hope you will check them out.

There is always more of the move over here at The Sweet Sheep! Check the site and the blog often to keep up on daily happenings!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Beatrice Bee

She is off the needles! What a lovely day to finish a shawl, the first snow fall :-)

As she was coming off the needles she earned her name, Beatrice.  Here she is in all of her pre blocked glory:bea.jpg

She is now headed for a warm bath after her tumble in the snow.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American friends, and to all of our Canadian friends…a few shots of the first snow fall here

I can see the finish line!

I am SO CLOSE to finishing my Bee Shawl, and I couldn’t bee happier! I really love knitting this shawl, but am ready to cast it off. i have 9 rows left to knit and hopefully you will be seeing pre blocking photos tomorrow.

Be is coming to an end just in time. Yesterday I saw this shawl.  I immediatly knew I had to make myself one. It gets cold in Canada right, so a handspun shawl is a fantastic idea. Seconds after I saw the picture I went stash diving to come up with a colour pallet and this is what I found…a5.jpg

Saying that I have a fiber “stash” would be an understatement, I have a fiber closet…and it was so much fun to go through it all and find fibers to spin. I have already spun the spincerely  fiber and am just plying it. I can’t wait to get to knitting this shaw so I am going to try to spin at least one braid per day.

Now, I know I made a promise not to cast on for another project till I finished 2 UFO’s so this will not be cast on until the bee is totally cast off.

I know that it is American Thanksgiving tomorrow so in honour of my American relatives I think I will take half the day off tomorrow to spin :-)

It might be quiet…

but big things are cookin’

I know that the bloging has been a little big scarce around here lately. I have been working like a mad (wo)man to put some changes into effect here.  Unfortunatly, you will have to wait till the new year to find out about them.

I am hoping to grow some extra arms by next year so that I can keep up with you all, so far…no luck. I am still re organizing the “Sweet Sheep Room” here and making some careful decisions, so that means more sales coming soon!

There has been some knitting. I am planning on finishing up my Bee shawl this week which is terribly exciting for me. Only 25 rows left to go…

What are you knitting right now?

One Down!

I finished C’s sock and have moved on to finishing the bee shawl, which might just take a bit longer, but I am hoping to have it done in a few weeks. I was really quite impressed that the socks matched Simon.

Tuesday Newsletter

Good Morning Yarn Lovers!

We have some fantastic updates to share with you.

There is a new Mystery Dyer at the Sweet Sheep. We have decided to structure this round a little different. First of all, we will be posting some clues as to who the dyer is. Clue #1, this mystery dyer is Canadian!

Secondly, I have noticed that several of you like to buy the mystery dyer along with other yarns and therefore end up paying shipping twice, so I have lowered the price and taken the shipping out of the cost of the skein so it can be sent with the rest of your order!

Also new to the shop is Rabbitworks yarns. Janice has worked very hard to send us an order of beautiful sock yarns from her “toe jam” line. These yarns are non repeatable and incredibly soft! Make sure to check them out!

In the area of restocking we have added more Shelridge FarmsBriggs and Little, Sweet Sheep Fiber and Sweet Sheep Faerie Feet. Thank you all so much for making the Faerie Feet line a success. Keep checking back as I am working on some new Faeries to join the line!

I have recently launched a new line dyed by The Sweet Sheep called Sweet Lace. These skeins of lace are very subtle solids that work well with any lace project!

Last, but certainly not least, fans of Ceyeberfiber yarns will have noticed that Mama E has closed down the retail portion of her site in order to keep up with her wholesale demand. That means the Sweet Sheep is now the EXCLUSIVE online site with Ceyeberfiber Yarns! We have her stunning elements series in stock, her beautiful shaded solids, the Ceyeberfiber lace and incredible rovings and are always working with Mama E to bring you more!

Things are shaking and moving over here…make sure to stop by and check out what’s new!

Coming Soon:

Dream in Color Smooshy Sock is on it’s way!

Brooklyn Handspun Signature

Handmaiden Camelspin and a new Handmaiden Lace!

The Unavoidable Truth

For many people Sunday is a day for confession.

I have a truth that has been bothering me and feel that I need to confess it in order to deal with it.

THE UFO’s:

a.jpg A pair of Socks for C. I finished the first sock right after Rhinebeck, but had not worked on them since. Poor C keeps looking at them in the knitting basket and then tells me how much he loves his last pair…ok, I get it.

a1.jpg Roam. I just started this sweater! I have a massive case of startitis! It is beautiful to work on, the Great Big Sea Silk is amazing and with the seed stitch it creates an amazing fabric.

a2.jpg The poor Sad neglected Bee Shawl! I love this mistake ridden shawl. The repeats have gotten so long that I just have not put the time in to get through a row. I really want to finish her, Anne has so many others that I am really itching to knit!

a3.jpg The Clapotis: I started this to keep me warm while I work on the computer…I am still cold! I was simply distracted by other projects including my Mr. Green Jeans sweater.

a4.jpg Miss. Bitchin’: I adore this sweater, however, once I got to the right side and the pattern specified…do it the same as the left side..except backwards….my brain abandoned it. I did rip the right front…which I knit..exactly like the left side. I have spun up enough yarn to finish the right front and start on the right sleeve.

These UFO’s have been haunting me. I really have several other patterns I would like to cast on, but i feel terrible with all of these UFO’s around….I need a UFO cleansing and have decided I WILL NOT cast on for any new projects until I finish at least 2 of these.

Did I mention I am also working on a few designs? The first was accepted to Mag Knits and will be included in their February issue! Whoo!

First up are C’s socks, I am moving along on the second sock and hope to have them finished tonight. After that I am not sure where I am going to go, but probably the Bitchin’ sweater. My ultimate goal is to have these all finished by the end of the year…wish me luck!

How many UFO’s do you have?

The last few weeks I have been in the dye room late at night desiging a new line for the Sweet Sheep. As I myself have become addicted to lace, my creativity would not allow me to sleep until I dyed my own.
