I may not be…

the brightest Crayon in the box.

How many days till Christmas?!? Ok, I am a little   Way, way way behind in my Christmas knitting. Why do we stress ourselves out over this? I have been knitting my buns off on the Oh! Canada Wrap

o.jpg

I am about 2 pattern repeats away from finishing the first half. Must Knit Faster! The pattern is just fantastic, my hands just don’t move as fast as I want them to!

I usually don’t do much Christmas knitting, but this year (at the last minute) I realized that I had no idea what to buy my family and I didn’t want to get them things they didn’t need or wouldn’t use…

I will also be attempting to knit my sister a drop stitch tank top. Luckily for me she is tiny and won’t be home until a week after Christmas…whew..an extra week of knitting.

While I am away attempting to re collect my sanity have a look at some pretty yarns that went up!

Lazy day at the Sheep

Do you ever have those days that you just feel so SO lazy. Well, I am having one of those days today. It is beautifully snowing outside and although it is grey and overcast I am enjoying the weather. I love when it snows, I also love when it rains, I guess I am just a big fan of weather. So today, I don’t feel like moving round much which could be a problem grocery shopping, but I will tackle that later…maybe.

So I did some updating in the shop:

cosmicsm.jpgfruitsm.jpgsorbettosm.jpgparrotsm.jpg

Merino/Silk Fleece Artist Roving. This blend is incredible. I thought because of  the silk content it would be difficult to draft and spin, but the merino just makes it a dream. I have spun 100% silk before and it was a disaster so I was a bit hesitant, but I was so wrong. The Merino/Silk blend spins so smoothly. I highly suggest you give it a whirl!

I have also been knitting! The first Father in Law sock is done

.fil.jpg

Now if I could only find my Chibis I could finish this sock. I think I have a little Chibi and sock elf in my house. The Chibis are always missing! I will see them in the morning and then they are gone by afternoon. I think this little elf keeps up his strength by eating the socks from the dryer because I have a pile of single socks that have lost their mate in the dangerous process of being laundered.

I am also test knitting Anne’s Oh! Canada Stole.

oh3.jpg

I just love this stole. It is a Christmas present…not sure if the recipient reads here so I won’t mention any names

In case you have never seen Anne’s patterns before, well she is a design genius. She creates some spectacular stoles/shawls/socks/and fingerless gloves.  I sent her an email begging to test knit this pattern for her and she gracefully agreed. The yarn is Shelride Farms in the DK weight which has incredible stitch definition.

oh.jpg

I was first drawn to this stole for the geese theme. I live by the waterfront where we have hundreds of Canadian Geese year round. I love to watch them fly overhead and listen to them play in the marina.

Then there is the cattail section:

oh2.jpg

which reminds me of so many child hood days of putting my rubber boots on and running around in the cattails! Cattails also made a great weapon if you broke one off and hit your sister with the heavy end, I used to love to smack her with them and watch the cattail explode into white fluff!
Of course this will look much better blocked, but I am not quite there yet!

I have also been spinning some Funky Carolina which is still at reduced prices for a little while. I am expecting a new shipment and the prices will be put back up when it arrives.

And last but not least all of the clues for the current Mystery dyer are up!

Clues

1-this mystery dyer is American

2-this mystery dyer loves pixies and sprites

3-if you love the sweet sheep colours this skein is for you!

I hope you all have a wonderfully lazy day and just enjoy what is going on outside your window no matter what the weather is!

Weekend Knitting

This weekend was a fast realization that I only have a few gifts ready for Christmas…”what the 10th…no way..it was just Dec 1st a few days ago!”

So I hopped onto a few Christmas projects:

First up, warms socks for my FIL

b2.jpg

My FIL is a cottage kind of guy who prefers to be outdoors no matter what the temperature, so he requested a pair of really warm socks that he can put over his other warm socks.

I am using Briggs and little for this project. It is perfect for what he is looking for. I have based my pattern on this one.  I clearly made some modifications.

Last year my mom asked for some Thrummed mittens…so now that it has been over a year I figured I should start them

b1.jpg

This is a really funn project. It is my first time thrumming, I do think I made the thrums too big, but I am really enjoying knitting this. I like how it looks like a squid or something with all of the roving coming out of the bottom!

My fingers keep getting cold while I am knitting so everyonce in a while I will put the cuff on my fingers to warm up and then we are back to knitting in no time!

The kit is from Fleece artist, I just put the Thrummed mitten kits up and the Thrummed sock kits.

I am really hoping to get to the thrummed socks for C. He requested warm socks…I think they would qualify.

A weekend for updates

I will be doing some serious updating today and Sunday. There are plenty of fantastic yarns here that have not gone into the shop yet.

Updated today was Lovesticks self striping! Katie sent us some wonderfully soft BFL self striping yarns in really cute Christmas Colourways! Perfect for this time of year!

I have also updated the Malabrigo Lace Section with some stunning new colourways.

Still on it’s way is the Fleece Artist Thrummed Mitten and Thrummed sock kits, Fleece artist Merino Silk Roving and Hip Knits Aran Silk.

I will be doing some great gift ideas next week, but here is my first one:

Great Gift Idea #1

Send a surprise to your friend (or yourself)for Christmas! The Mystery Dyer is a great way to add a little spice to your life and also a great way to send yourself a little gift for all that hard knitting work you do year round. Treat yourself to the Mystery, but act now…there are only 10 skeins left!

So, how is that Christmas knitting coming?

On To Christmas!

Wow, this weekend just flew by! Thank you to all who took part in the $20 skein sale!

In between packing orders I managed to finish this:a5.jpg

As many of my family members will tell you, I am THRILLED with this shawl.

a3.jpg

I used 8 braids of merino and superwash merino from my stash and spun them to a bulky weight. The pattern is the feather and fan comfort shawl and I would make another in a heartbeat.

a4.jpg

The sun even came out today for the shawl’s photo shoot! With the finishing of this shawl I am now moving on to my Christmas knitting.

Enough about me! The random number generator has chosen a winner for the Handspun Holiday Contest.

Congratulations Adelle, enjoy your gift certificate.

In honour of my handspun excitement I will be putting all Funky Carolina, Ceyeberfiber rovings on sale today only, so you can make a handspun shawl too!
