Day 1

I needed some mindless knitting

and a treat for my fingers, so I cast on this cowl.

Gloria Cowl

Knit from a skein of Bronze Casbah that I may have snagged when the last casbah order came in…it looks as though I need to place another! The casbah has been incredible to knit with. I am trying to convince myself to not steal a few more skeins for a shawl…must finish knitting some other yarns first…right??

Once again I must apologize for being so absent on the blog. There are a few reasons for this, most recently (and also the reason for the mindless knitting) is that Chris had surgery once again on his arm.

Some of you may remember in June of 2008 Chris was in an accident at work in which he fell 25+ feet onto his back and broke his left elbow, pelvis in 3 places and fractured his left heel. That was not a fun summer. He had 2 surgeries during his 2 week hospital stay in which he had 1/3 of his radial head removed (elbow bone). His recovery went very well and he was able to gain back much of his movement to touch his shoulder, but NO movement in turning his wrist…at all!

We later discovered that Chris being the amazing healer that he is, grew an extra bone…not in a helpful way thought. The bone grew between the two rotating bones of his forearm, and actually prevented them from the possibility of rotating.

So, almost 2 years later it was time to have his third surgery. It was an elective surgery, the Dr could not tell us that it would come out any better than what he had and there are some major nerves he was worried about, but after 2.5 hours of surgery Chris still has use of his hand (no major nerve damage) and we are waiting week by week to see how his recovery will go. He’s wonderfully optimistic and very determined and so we wait to see which path life takes us down this year.

As for knitting, I had the surgery day and so far 2 hospital/dr visits to work on the cowl…it gave me something to keep my fingers busy and I can’t pace when I knit, so it was a great companion on surgery day. Since then knitting has almost stopped…I was a busy nurse for the last 2 weeks, but Chris is starting to move around much better now and I am able to get my work done…things are looking up for my knitting time!!

Thank you for your well wishes and thoughts, we are doing alright and extremely thankful to this day that his surgeries have been on his arm and not his back!

Whoot!!

It seems that I just had to publicly out the blog (and update the software..duh) and the blog is fixed…after a month of trying to figure out a larger problem!

Today my intelligence takes a kick to the ego…but I don’t care..it works!!

This calls for a new project….and some casbah I think for all of my mental anguish!

I will be back to regular blogging soon

xoxo!

Still here, but…

the blog is brokenish! It seems that I can post but can’t  upload pictures.

I did try to fix it on my own, however it seems I am not quite skilled in this area :) I did also attempt to have someone fix it for me…also a major fail ( my mom told me that if I don’t have anything nice to say…)

Anyways just wanted to let you all know that I am still here…things are still happening…but you just can’t see them in pictures!

Happy Holidays

Hi all!
Sorry it has been so quiet around here lately, the Christmas season has really sped by!
I will be traveling to see family from the 26th-jan 1st which I am very excited about. However, that means I won’t be here to ship orders and the post is closed on Christmas. So any orders placed after the 23rd will be shipped when I return and the post opens back up on the 4th of January. Between my trip and all the weekend/holiday closings it seems like there won’t be any shipping for a little while. Rest assured i will have email access every few days and do my very best to get things out to you as soon as I possibly can.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday with those you love and just a little piece of rest and relaxation!
xo
Michelle…see you in 2010!!!

a little spin and knit

One of the recent Funky Carolina fibers that came into the shop really caught my attention. I love Carrie’s colours…her combinations are always classy and fun. So when I saw “Fo Shizzle” I knew I had to spin up a braid!

October and November are fingerless glove time and I needed some mindless knitting so I settled on Toast.

I set to spinning this

Into this!

yarn1

I was so happy with the yarn and it was the right weight so I set of knitting right away. I love to knit on DPN’s (yes I know you think I’m crazy) So I worked the pattern in the round and left the thumb off but knit the thumb hole…just for a bit of versatility. My first pair of toasts have a thumb, so now I have both.

We are expecting some more Funky Carolina fibers in a bit..I will keep you updated. However, I did just have a beautiful box of Pigeonroof studios BFL hit my porch and will be uploading those pretties later in the evening!

Pay it forward

I have decided to take part in Pay it forward this year. For a long time I have needed to do something nice for someone and Barbara brought it to my attention and I think it is just the thing for me.
Over the next 365 days I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment wanting to participate. The catch is that you then have to pay it forward to 3 people of your own…and so goes the handmade gifting! Spread the love!

The Talent Collection

This beautiful fall has left me incredibly inspired. My inspiration comes from many different places, but of late it has been a CD that I picked up having heard one song that just totally re-ignited my love for music and sparked my creativity.

The latest Billy Talent CD. While most of you will probably not be familiar with this band they have become one of my favorites. This CD is hard rock..which tends to be my core love of music and whether or not it is yours it has greatly inspired me with lyrics and colours to go with them.

With this kind of inspiration and creativity I am excited to introduce to you the first of “The Talent Collection.”

White Sparrows

Today I walked down our old street
Past the diner where we’d meet
Now I dine alone in our old seats
The cold wind blows right through my bones
And I feel like I’m getting old
But I wish I was getting old with you
I held your hand when we took shelter from the rain
She laughed as we picked out our children’s names

White sparrows fell from heaven and carried her away
Black arrows cut the strings of my heart, I kneel and pray

Her clothes hang in the closet still
The phone sits on the windowsill
And every time it rings it gives me chills
My heart just stopped when I was told
Doctor, doctor, on the phone
Said my love was never coming home
I hold your casket gently walking to the grave
Dark clouds eclipse the sun won’t shine again

White sparrows fell from heaven and carried her away
Black arrows cut the strings of my heart, I kneel and pray

They gave her one more day
To say the words I couldn’t say
I’m crying in pain, crying in pain

And I’m not looking for answers
No, I’m not looking for answers
But dear God, why did you choose her?

White sparrows fell from heaven and carried her away
Black arrows cut the strings of my heart, I kneel and pray

They gave her one more day
To say the words I couldn’t say
I’m crying in pain (crying in pain)
Crying in pain
Our love will remain
I’m crying in pain

The Wedding.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted about the wedding yet! I felt that when I got home I just hit the ground running. There was SO MUCH drama to be taken care of in the months before the wedding with the swine flu ect that I just dropped most work to deal with and when I returned there was a HUGE backlog (don’t worry, orders always ship on time)

I am also having trouble uploading the pics on my mac, so in the mean time here are a few preview pictures, I am working on getting more up and have THOUSANDS of amazing pics to go through.

Hope you enjoy the sneak peek!
